About Us

Our Story

Blak & Blue Dance Project (BBDP) was originally established as the nonprofit arm of LA-based dance studio MNR Dance Factory.

Roni Blak– the founder and current owner of MNR– and her former partner Molly Lorenz created BBDP with the goal of producing socially aware, relevant, and original projects for other nonprofits and their respective fundraisers.

In 2023, Roni decided to transform BBDP into an independent entity to broaden the nonprofit’s reach while still maintaining its core dedication to the creation of original, socially relevant works. Today, BBDP produces dance films, creates unique productions for other nonprofit organizations, equips schools with the infrastructure for film and dance productions, and provides a platform for up-and-coming artists of all ages.

Blak & Blue Dance Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that educates, impacts, and empowers the global community through the art of dance. Our short films, dance productions, artist collaborations, and educational initiatives enhance awareness of current human rights issues. We strive to remind our audience of the importance of the arts in fostering empathy.
In an era of heightened polarization, our north star is a world where humans are treated equally and celebrated for their differences.

Our Values

We believe everyone deserves to be treated fairly, to have equal opportunity and rights, and to be recognized as human, regardless of race, nationality, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, or other constructs.
We believe democracy is crucial for the realization of universal human rights. Governments worldwide should exist to protect, respect, and serve their people. All humans deserve fair and equal governance, including the power to choose their leaders and to hold them accountable.
We need to honor self expression and cast off antiquated societal “norms” in order to empower and amplify the voices of the marginalized and vulnerable.
As a dance-focused organization, we prioritize mental and physical wellbeing, and we recognize the endless benefits of dance and the mind-body connection.
We are mindful of the impact humans have on the planet Earth. We are committed to raising awareness in order to extend the survival of the only home we have.
